The Marina Casa De Campo Open is a Catch & Release format tournament in which, Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Sailfish are valid. The tournament is a part of the calendar of events that forms a part of the Blue Marlin fishing season, which starts on February 1st and ends May 30th, with Robert “Fly” Navarro as tournament director and the Marina Casa de Campo’s organizing team.
The tournament is scheduled for March 16th– 18th of 2023. The activities program will start with a captain’s meeting and welcoming party on March 16th, followed by two fishing days (17th and 18th), finishing the event on the last day with the awards ceremony.
This edition of the tournament is special because it is dedicated to our dear friend Captain Joe Lyall, champion of our 2022 tournament. Joe was always a great supporter of all the initiatives made for the development of our fishing season and of the well-being of visiting and local fishermen. His positive attitude and his willingness were always of great help to us.
The teams follow Blue Marlins on the FAD’s placed out at sea, which tend to concentrate bites in specific areas. On most days you can get more than 6 Blue Marlin bites a day per boat, although it is not at all uncommon for boats to see 10 or more during the season.
Awards will be given to the first three places of each category: Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and Sailfish, also awards will be given to youth and lady anglers in the categories.
Tournament Rules
The Captain’s Meeting will be held Thursday, March 16th, 2023 at 6:30pm in the Casa de Campo Yacht Club, for all registered teams. A team representative must be in attendance, as rules are subject to change.
FISHING HOURS: The Tournament will begin with the call of “lines in” at 8:00am both days and continue until 5:00pm on the first day of fishing and until 4:00pm the second day. All boats must be inside the marina before 7:00 p.m. on the first day and 6:00 p.m. on the second day, as the committee must have your catch affidavits and video by then. There are no lay days or weather days, unless determined by the committee. Fish at your own risk.
- BOUNDARIES: There are no boundaries.
- ANGLING & EQUIPMENT: International Billfish Tournament Regulations apply.
There is no limit to the number of anglers in the tournament.
Professional crew members are permitted to be registered anglers.
A maximum of six lines (with hooks) are permitted at any one time. An unlimited amount of hookless baits or teasers are allowed. “J” hooks may be used on lures only. Natural baits must be deployed with non-offset circle hooks. - TOURNAMENT SPECIES: Blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish and spearfish are eligible for catch and release.
- REPORTING OF BILLFISH: A billfish hook-up must be called in to the “Committee Boat” within the first minute on VHF channel 71. The “Committee Boat” will validate your hook-up by announcement. A billfish release must be called in to the “Committee Boat” with the following information: species released, and boat name, . The “Committee Boat” will then verify your information by announcement and give you a release time, which must be recorded on your daily catch affidavit and turned in at the end of the fishing day, with your video evidence. If you lose your fish prior to release (i.e. jump-off, pulled hook, etc.) please inform the “Committee Boat” as soon as possible.
- CATCH & RELEASE RULES: All billfish must be released to qualify. A billfish is considered released when: a) the swivel between the mainline or double line and leader hits the rod tip, b) the mate grabs the leader, or c) the wind-on leader comes through the rod tip. Please release the fish in good condition by either removing the hook-set or cutting the leader as close to the hook-set as possible. “Popping” the leader is not a good method of healthy release, and we ask that you refrain from doing so.
- CATCH & RELEASE POINTS: Blue Marlin: 400 points
White Marlin: 100 points
Spearfish: 100 points
Sailfish: 50 points
Unidentifiable Billfish: 50 points
A “hatchet marlin” will be considered a white marlin in this tournament and therefore is categorized as such.
All ties will be broken on time. - CATCH & RELEASE VERIFICATION: Identification Markers – Each team will obtain a marker prior to the day’s fishing. This marker must be displayed during the fight and recorded. Failure to show the marker in your video proof will disqualify your catch, even if it is time-stamped.
Release Verification Recordings – Each team is required to show video evidence of billfish catch and release. This recording shall be time and date stamped in accordance with the “official time” as stated by the “Committee Boat” prior to each day’s fishing. Your video proof shall include: 1) registered angler fighting the fish, 2) proper identification marker, 3) sufficient footage of the fish in order to accurately determine the species, and 4) proper release evidence . All recordings submitted must be easily viewed by the committee. It is the team’s responsibility to have these items and the video cued up for immediate viewing. Failure to do so will delay the verification process. We highly recommend you have at least two recordings on different cameras, and underwater shots are the best way to accurately identify the species.
Release Affidavit – Each billfish release is required to be noted on the day’s affidavit and submitted with your video to the committee each fishing day. Failure to turn in your affidavit will disqualify that day’s catch(es). Affidavits are supplied with your registration package. If you do not have one for each day, please see the committee for a replacement.
Submission of Recordings – Verification recordings must be submitted to the Committee between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day of fishing. All recordings, images, sounds, etc. may become property of Casa de Campo and/or Fly Zone Fishing and may be used at any time. Recordings and/or images will be downloaded from the team’s device(s), if needed
Dispute & Polygraph – In the unlikely event a dispute or protest is filed with the committee, it is possible a polygraph test may be required should the dispute not be resolved. Members must be available within 24 hours of the dispute and must not consume alcohol or any controlled substance eight hours prior to testing. Failure to report for a polygraph test or refusal to answer any questions satisfactory to the committee may result in disqualification. All disputes or protests must be submitted to the committee in writing prior to 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the tournament.

MCDC Open es un torneo formato “catch & release” en el cual participan las especies de pico: Marlín Azul, Marlín Blanco y Pez Vela. El torneo forma parte del calendario de eventos que se agotan durante la temporada de pesca de Marlín Azul, la cual inicia el 1ro de febrero y termina el 30 de mayo y contará con la dirección de Robert “Fly” Navarro y el equipo de organización de La Marina de Casa de Campo.
El torneo está pautado del 16 al 18 de marzo del 2023. El programa de actividades iniciará con una reunión de capitanes y fiesta de bienvenida el 16 de marzo, seguido de dos días de pesca (17 y 18), cerrando el evento este último día con la ceremonia de premiación.
Esta edición del torneo es muy especial porque está dedicada a nuestro querido amigo el Capitán Joe Lyall, campeón del torneo 2023. Joe siempre fue de gran apoyo en todas las iniciativas tomadas para el desarrollo de nuestra temporada de pesca y el bienestar tanto de los pescadores visitantes y los pescadores locales. Su actitud positiva y su buena disposición siempre fueron de gran ayuda para nosotros.
Los equipos persiguen los Marlín Azules en las balsas colocadas en alta mar, lo cual tiende a concentrar las picadas en áreas específicas. La mayoría de los días tiene a lanchas con hasta 6 picadas al día de Marlín Azul, aunque no es extraño que lanchas consigan hasta 10 o más por día durante esta temporada.
Serán premiarán los tres primeros lugares de cada categoría de especies: Marlín Azul, Marlín Blanco y Pez Vela. Además se premiarán los niños y damas en las categorías mencionadas.
Reglas del Torneo
La reunión de capitanes se efectuará el jueves 16 de marzo a las 6:30pm en el Club de Yates de Casa de Campo, para todos los equipos registrados. Un representante de cada equipo debe asistir, ya que las reglas están sujetas a cambios.
1) Horario de Pesca: El torneo empezará con el llamado “lines in” a las 8:00am ambos días y continuará hasta las 5:00pm el primer día y hasta las 4:00pm el segundo día. Todas las lanchas deberán estar dentro de la marina antes de las 7:00pm el primer día y a las 6:00pm el segundo día, ya que el comité debe tener sus declaraciones de captura y videos para ese entonces. No hay días de descanso ni días por cambio de clima, a menos que se determine por el comité.
Pesque a su propio riesgo.
2) Áreas de Pesca: No hay áreas de pesca.
3) PESCA Y EQUIPAMIENTO: Se aplican las normas del Torneo Internacional de Pez de Pico.
No hay límite en el número de pescadores en el torneo.
Los miembros de la tripulación profesional están autorizados a ser pescadores registrados.
4) Especies validas para el Torneo: Marlin Azul, Marlin Blanco, Pez Vela, y Spearfish.
5) Reportando una tirada: la tirada debe ser reportada dentro del primer minuto de pelea al control del torneo en el canal 71 VHF.
El control reportará la tirada por anuncio. Al liberar el pez debe ser reportado al control con la siguiente información: especie soltada, nombre de embarcación y nombre de pescador. El control verificará su información reportando el tiempo de liberación, el cual debe ser anotado en su declaración de captura diaria y entregada al finalizar el día de pesca con su video evidencia. Si pierde el pez antes de ser liberado (ej. partió la línea, boto el anzuelo etc) debe reportarlo al control lo antes posible.
6) Reglas de Captura y Liberación: Todo pez de pico debe ser liberado para que califique. Un pez de pico se considera liberado cuando: a) el saca vueltas entre la línea principal y la doble línea toca la punta de la caña de pesca. b) cuando el marino agarre la doble línea o el fuete cruce por la punta de la caña de pesca. Por favor libere el pez en buena condición removiéndole el anzuelo o cortando el fuete lo más cercano al anzuelo posible. Halando el fuete no es una sana manera de liberar el pez, pedimos que se abstengan de hacerlo.
7) Puntos de Captura y Liberación:
- Marlin Azul: 400 puntos
- Marlin Blanco: 100 puntos
- Spearfish: 100 puntos
- Pez Vela: 50 puntos
- Pez de pico no identificable: 50 puntos
Un “Hatchet Marlin” será considerado un Marlin Blanco por lo cual será categorizado como tal.
Todo empate será desempatado por hora.
8) Verificación de Captura y Liberación.
Marcadores de Identificación.- cada equipo obtendrá un marcador previo al día de pesca. Este marcador debe ser presentado durante la pelea y grabado. La falta de mostrar este marcador en el video resultará en la descalificación de su captura, aun estando estampada con fecha y hora.
Verificación de Grabaciones de Liberación.- es mandatorio que cada equipo presente una constancia en video de cada captura y liberación de pez de pico. Este video debe estar estampado con la fecha y hora oficial del torneo establecida por el comité previo a cada día de pesca. Su prueba en video debe ser
1) El pescador registrado peleando el pez.
2) Marcador de identificación apropiado.
3) Suficiente material de video del pez para determinar con certeza la especie del pez.
4) Prueba de liberación adecuada (mirar la regla No.7). Todo material de grabación debe ser de fácil acceso para la visualización del control. Es responsabilidad del equipo tener dichos materiales y videos listos para su visualización inmediata. Por lo que la falta del mismo significaría un retraso en el proceso de verificación. Recomendamos que tengan las grabaciones de al menos dos cámaras diferentes, siendo la toma subacuática la mejor para identifica las especies.
Declaración de Liberación.- cada liberación de pez de pico esta requerida a ser anotada en la declaración diaria y sometida con su video al control al finalizar cada día de pesca. Si no entrega la declaración diaria sus captura(s) del día serán descalificadas. Las declaraciones están suministradas junto con su paquete de registro. Si no tiene uno para cada día por favor contactar al control para que le suplan las mismas.
Entrega de Grabaciones.- los videos de verificación deberán ser entregados entre las 4:30pm y 7:00pm de cada día de pesca. Todo material de video, fotos o sonidos están sujetos a convertirse en propiedad de Casa de Campo y/o Fly Zone Fishing y podrá ser utilizado en cualquier momento. Grabaciones y/o fotos serán descargadas de el dispositivo del equipo de ser necesario.
Disputa y Polígrafo.- en el caso poco probable de una disputa o protesta presentada al control, es posible que una prueba de polígrafo sea requerida en caso de que la disputa no sea resuelta. Los miembros deben estar disponibles dentro de 24 horas de la disputa y no pueden consumir alcohol o alguna substancia controlada 8 horas antes de hacerle la prueba. Si no asiste a la prueba o se rehúsa a contestar alguna pregunta satisfactoria al comité puede resultar en la descalificación. Toda disputa o protesta debe ser sometida al control en escrito antes de las 5:00pm del último día de pesca.
